Arizona State Credit Union Recycles More Than 20 Tons of Documents

Shred-a-Thons help promote sustainability and protection against identity theft for fifth year

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Arizona State Credit Union’s eight shred events concluded for the fifth year in a row, resulting in over 41,500 pounds of paper recycled.

Over seven months, members of Northern Arizona communities brought boxes of their old documents, including bank statements, tax returns, medical bills, credit card statements and other personal documents, to shred and recycle on location at Credit Union branches in their areas, free of charge.

In support of community outreach programs, the Credit Union sponsored these events to help raise awareness about the importance of shredding personal documents and protecting against identity theft.

“This is our fifth year providing this service to our members, to ensure their identities are safe from financial schemes” said David E. Doss, President/CEO of Arizona State Credit Union. “As a 100% local financial cooperative, it is our obligation to provide opportunities to our members to safely dispose of their sensitive documents, while helping our Arizona communities stay green.”

The Shred-a-Thon kicked off in April at the Credit Union’s Chino Valley branch and concluded in October at its Cottonwood branch. The free events were also held at the Credit Union’s Prescott, Prescott Valley and Flagstaff branches and were open to all community members.
