About the Film
Breaking the Cycle is a powerful short documentary that follows three entrepreneurs—Tomeka, Anthony, and Nella—as they work to build financial stability, grow their businesses, and create generational change.
Their journeys reflect the realities faced by many Black, Latino, Indigenous, rural, and underserved business owners: limited access to credit, historical inequities, and systems not designed with their experiences in mind. Yet through resilience, financial education, and relationship-based support, they are forging new paths forward.
Why It Matters
For generations, many communities have faced barriers to building wealth—from redlining and financial deserts to the racial wealth gap and limited access to fair lending.
Breaking the Cycle shows how financial literacy + trust + access can change that story.
Credit unions are uniquely positioned to lead this change—because when members thrive, communities thrive.
